A massacre committed by Zionist forces, at Al-Dawymeh village, located between Beir Al-Sabaa and Al-Khalil, it is considered to be the worst atrocity committed during the Palestinian calamity. It was occupied by unit 89 of the 8th Zionist army corps
The united nations’ reconciliation committee, which replaced cont Pernadot in mediation efforts, held to probe the atrocity that committed in this village which located no more than 8 miles from Al-Khalil, in 28/10/1948, its native inhabitants were 2000, soared up to 6000, by refugees from other villages.
The United Nations’ report dated in 14/5/1949 contained the following points:
At the bottom the reason for the meager information about this atrocity, which over account what had occurred in Deir Yassin, related to the Arabic army corps ( the army where the village was under its authority ) who apparently were afraid the spread of these information may affect the rural spirit, and end up with mass migration similarly to Deir Yassin massacre effect, and lead to further migration, but the reason probably is related Jordanians’ desire no to be blamed for their inadequacy and inability to prevent the massacre.
Basically the report based on Al-Mokhtars’, Hasan Mahmoud Hudaib, testimony, most of which was supported by the reports preserved at Zionist Military archives, In addition to that, the well known Zionist writer, Amous Kinan, who participated in the massacre, during an interview with the Palestinian actor and director Mohammad Bakry, in late 90s, for his documentary 1946.
The Mokhtar said that half hour after Al-Jumaa mass prayer a 20 armored military vehicle entered the village fron Al-Qybiah’s direction, simultaneously it was waged from the other direction, the 20, lightly armored, village defenders were paralyzed by the surprise, the soldiers open the fire from their machine guns and mortars, while they were heading toward the center of the village in semi circular motion, they surrounded the village from three directions leaving the east direction open to force the 6000 villagers out, but it did not went by their plan, so they jumped out their vehicles and started killing people randomly, villagers seek refuge in Al-Masjed or the nearby cave called Eraq Al-Zagh.
The Mokhtar continued that when he got the courage he went back to the village the next day, and he was horrified by the scattered corpses at Al-Masjid, and on the roads, it was for men, women, and children, his father was among these corpses, after that he went to the cave, Eraq Al-Zagh, where its entrance was covered by tens of corpses, according to the Mokhtar, 455 Pearson were missing, among them 170 women and children.
The soldiers who participated in this outrageous massacre described what have happened their by saying:
Skulls of infants were smashed, women were raped and burned alive inside their houses, and men were stabbed to death, these descriptions were not narrated years after the massacre, but after few days in report to the supreme command. This outrageous barbaric atrocities perpetrated against the villager was, also, supported by the atrocities committed in Al-Tantoura, Al-Safsaf, and Saasaa, which were traced by dates and verbal testimonies.
